Plastomenus thomasii

Taxonomy

Trionyx thomasii was named by Cope (1872) [AMNH 6018 is the designated neotype by Joyce and Lyson 2010]. Its type specimen is AMNH 6018, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cottonwood Creek badlands (Bridger B), which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.

It was recombined as Plastomenus thomasi by Hay (1908); it was considered a nomen dubium by Joyce and Lyson (2010); it was recombined as Plastomenus thomasii by Cope (1873), Cope (1875), Hay (1902), Hay (1930), Vitek and Joyce (2015), Lyson et al. (2021).

Synonyms

Plastomenus visendus was named by Hay (1908). Its type specimen is AMNH 1895, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rattlesnake Hills, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.

It was synonymized subjectively with Plastomenus thomasii by Vitek and Joyce (2015).
Plastomenus tantillus was named by Hay (1908). Its type specimen is AMNH 5980, a partial shell (nearly the complete carapace and the greater portion of the plastron), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Near the mouth of Cottonwood Creek (Bridger B), which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.

It was synonymized subjectively with Plastomenus thomasii by Vitek and Joyce (2015).
