Labidostomma was named by Kramer (1879). It is extant. It is the type genus of Labidostommatoidea.

It was assigned to Labidostommatidae by Dunlop and Bertrand (2011), Dunlop et al. (2013); and to Labidostomatidae by Sidorchuk and Bertrand (2013).
