Cryptoblastus was named by Etherridge and Carpender (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Tour-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2,918]. It is not extant. Its type is Cryptoblastus rowleyi.
It was assigned to Spiraculata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Granatocrinidae by Waters and Horowitz (1993), Bauer et al. (2017).
