Encrinuroides gelaisi

Taxonomy

Walencrinuroides gelaisi was named by Lespérance and Desbiens (1995) [= 1989 Encrinuroides n. sp. Desbiens & Lespérance 1191]. Its type specimen is GSC 110326, an exoskeleton (enrolled exoskeleton), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry 1.5 km north of the Ouiatchouaniche River, Roberval, which is in an Edenian carbonate shale/wackestone in the Shipshaw Formation of Canada.

It was recombined as Encrinuroides gelaisi by Moss and Westrop (2014).

P. J. Lespérance and D. Desbiens 1995	A species characterized by reduced ornamentation, notably on the cephalic borders, thorax, and pygidial ribs. Glabellar furrows short (tr.), distally restricted and sub-vertical; cephalon with small genal spines or spinules. Pygidium as wide as long to wider than long, with 19-20 tuberculated axial rings and 7 (rarely, 8) pleural ribs.
D. K. Moss and S. R. Westrop 2014	Gently expanded glabella with minimum width at L2; scattered perforate glabellar tubercles with pairing on L1 and L2, but obscure anteriorly. Genal spine reduced to bluntly pointed nub. Palpebral lobe strongly elevated on narrow stalk centered opposite anterior half of L2. Librigena with shallow anterior furrow defined largely by absence of scupture; closely spaced, large tubercles on precranidial lobe. Pygidium with low, paired perforate tubercles on axial rings; paired tubercles on opposing right and left pleural ribs mostly effaced and expressed largely by perforations. Seven pairs of pleural ribs, with tips of two posteriormost pairs fused into border; free tips of anterior pairs rounded rather than spinose.
