Anartiocystis was named by Ausich and Schumacher (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m Sepkoski's reference number: 329]. Its type is Anartiocystis foerstei.

It was assigned to Apiocystitinae by Ausich and Schumacher (1984); to Rhombifera by Sepkoski (2002); and to Callocystitidae by Paul and Rozhnov (2016).
