Ceraurus dentatus was named by Raymond and Barton (1913) [= Ceraurus pleurexanthemus Green 1832. Hall 1847 p. 242, P1.65, fig. Id-lf, lh, li, 1k, ?11, im, ?In; P1. 66, fig. la-lh; non P1. 65, fig. lalc, = Cheirurus pleurexanthemus (Green). Billings 1863, p. 188, fig. 188. = Ceraurus hirsuitus Ludvigsen Hessin 1989 pl. 1, figs. 1-7. non Ceraurus dentatus Raymond 1921, pl. 10, fig. 2 non Ceraurus dentatus Sinclair 1964, P1. 4, fig. 10 non Ceraurus dentatus Ludvigsen 1978, fig. 33 non Ceraurus dentatus Ludvigsen 1979a, fig. 26C].

It was recombined as Gabriceraurus dentatus by Lespérance and Desbiens (1995).
