Taxonomy

Zenostephanus was named by Callomon et al. (2009). Its type is Aulacostephanus (Xenostephanus) ranbyensis.

It was assigned to Perisphinctidae by Callomon et al. (2009).

Xenostephanus was named by Arkell and Callomon (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Xenostephanus chiottii.

It was reranked as Aulacostephanus (Xenostephanus) by Arkell and Callomon (1963); it was reranked as Zonovia (Xenostephanus) by Mesezhnikov (1984); it was replaced with Zenostephanus by Callomon et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Aulacostephanus by Arkell and Callomon (1963); to Zonovia by Mesezhnikov (1984); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
