Taxonomy
Virgatosphinctes subtenuicostatus was named by Mesezhnikov (1984). Its type specimen is TsNIGR 12/9564, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dyabakatara River, bed 25, Taimyr Peninsula, which is in a Tithonian marine siliciclastic in the Russian Federation.
