Glyptorthis fausta

Taxonomy
Orthis fausta was named by Foerste (1887). Its type specimen is USNM 84829 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Soldier’s Home, 2.5 miles west of Dayton, which is in an Aeronian carbonate limestone in the Brassfield Formation of Ohio.

It was recombined as Glyptorthis fausta by Schuchert and Cooper (1932), Wright and Stigall (2014).

D. F. Wright and A. L. Stigall 2014Shell moderate to large size (character 1, width 19.43–22.13 mm); outline subrectangular with the width much greater than length. Ventral valve thin with shallow sulcus. Ventral muscle scars narrow, with anterior and lateral deflections; ventral adductors emplaced onto a raised platform. Ventral interarea low; long posterior extension of the ventral umbo across the hinge line.
