Taxonomy
Glyptorthis pulchra was named by Wang (1949). Its type specimen is USNM 111937 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Near mill 1 mile northwest of Fort Atkinson, which is in a Richmondian carbonate shale in the Maquoketa Formation of Iowa.

Stigall 2014Moderate to large species of Glyptorthis (character 1, width 15.87–22.42 mm); ornamentation weakly lamellose; interspatial distance between costae and costellae wide. Ventral cardinal area wide, elevated significantly above hinge line; umbo extending over the hinge line. Ventral diductor muscle scars separated by medial septum; adductor scars on a raised platform. Dorsal muscle scars large, slightly wider than long. Brachiophores short; dorsal umbo extending over the hinge line.
