Goniomya (Goniomya) cachinensis was named by Aberhan (2004). Its type specimen is SNGM 813, a valve (left valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quebrada Cachina, Antofagasta, which is in a Hettangian open shallow subtidal horizon in Chile.
