Lepidasterella was named by Schuchert (1914) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras-u C Serp-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Helianthaster gyalum.
It was assigned to Lepidasteridae by Schuchert (1915); to Taeniactininae by Spencer (1927); to Helianthasterinae by Owen (1965); to Taeniactinidae by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Hemizonida by Sepkoski (2002); to Helianthasteridae by Welsh (1984), Blake (2009); and to Asteroidea by Blake (2018).
