Originally mentioned by Cuvier (1824) as Emyde de Bruxelles, figured in his pl. XIII, fig. 8 and pl. XV, fig. 16

Taxonomy

Emys camperi was named by Gray (1831). Its type specimen is I.R.S.N.B. 1687/R.4, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bruxelles Sands (Sables d'Bruxelles) - Bruxelles Formation, which is in a Lutetian coastal sandstone in the Bruxelles Formation of Belgium.

It was recombined as Lytoloma camperi by Bergounioux (1933); it was recombined as Puppigerus camperi by Dollo (1923), Moody (1974), Tong et al. (2012) and Karl and Tichy (2019).

Synonyms

Chelone trigoniceps was named by Owen (1849). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bracklesham Bay, which is in a Lutetian marine siliciclastic in the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Puppigerus trigoniceps by Cope (1870); it was recombined as Lytoloma trigoniceps by Lydekker (1889); it was synonymized subjectively with Puppigerus camperi by Moody (1974).
Chelone acuticeps was named by Owen (1849). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Lytoloma trigoniceps by Lydekker (1889).
Chelone longiceps was named by Owen (1841). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is London Clay, Isle of Sheppey turtles, which is in a Ypresian marine claystone in the London Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Puppigerus longiceps by Cope (1870); it was recombined as Lytoloma longiceps by Lydekker (1889); it was synonymized subjectively with Puppigerus camperi by Moody (1974).
Emys parkinsonii was named by Gray (1831). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Partial shell, figured in Cuvier (1824, pl. XV.14–15), a partial shell. Its type locality is London Clay, Isle of Sheppey turtles, which is in a Ypresian marine claystone in the London Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chelone longiceps by Owen (1842).
Puppigerus nessovi was named by Averianov (2005). Its type specimen is ZIN PH 1/46, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dzheroi 2, which is in a Bartonian marine sandstone in Uzbekistan.

It was synonymized subjectively with Puppigerus camperi by Tong et al. (2012).
