Taxonomy
Zygiocetus nartorum was named by Tarasenko (2014). Its type specimen is PIN 5461, a partial skeleton (incomplete skull and skeleton), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Polevoe 1, which is in a Messinian marine claystone in the Krasnooktyabr’sk Formation of the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Zygiocetus.
