Taxonomy
Metaphiomys schaubi was named by Wood (1968). It is not extant. Its type specimen is CM 26910, a set of teeth. Its type locality is Quarry G (Jebel Qatrani Formation) (= "upper sequence"), which is in a Rupelian fluvial sandstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt.
