Taxonomy
Hallaster was named by Stürtz (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u D Gedi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. Its type is Palaeocoma cylindrica. It is the type genus of Hallasteridae.
It was assigned to Hallasteridae by Spencer (1925); to Lapworthuridae by Schuchert (1915), Owen (1965) and Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Oegophiurida by Sepkoski (2002).
