Macrobrochus was named by Schrammen (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: K u]. It is not extant. Its type is Macrobrochus emscheris. It is the type genus of Macrobrochinae.

It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Macrobrochinae by Finks et al. (2004).
