Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
J. Claude et al. 2012Geoemydid turtle of medium size
(adult carapace length varying from 25 to 35 cm). Differs
from all other geoemydid taxa by the following combination
of characters: a central carina can be present from the
fifth neural to the first suprapygal, while a weak lateral carina
can be present close to the vertebral scutes; wide
neurals (as wide as long second to fourth neurals, wider
than long fifth to eigth neurals), hexagonal in shape, with
short anterolateral sides; rather short first costal reaching
the posterior end of the third peripheral or the anterior end
of the fourth peripheral; first vertebral scute trapezoidal in
shape, covering part of the first peripheral; anterior
marginals covering most of the peripheral plates but not
reaching the costal plates; hexagonal second and third
vertebrals, slightly wider anteriorly than posteriorly; sulcus
between the second and third pleural scute oblique, close to
the posterior margin of the fourth costal plate laterally; carapace
sutured to the plastron by a long bridge; inguinal process
contacting the lateral half of the fifth and sixth costal
plates; anterior plastral lobe shorter than the posterior lobe,
with slightly notched anterior border; well developed
epiplastra, with long interepiplastral suture which is nearly
as long as the hyo-epiplastral suture; epiplastral lip present,
but flat and not prominent; rhomboid entoplastron intersected
by the gularohumeral sulcus on its anterior quarter,
and by the humeropectoral sulcus close to its posterior end;
pectoral scute nearly as long as the abdominal scute; anal
notch well developed; well developed visceral lips under
the femoral scute on the plastron.
