Smithtonia lanceolata was named by Hill and Pole (1992) [Type locality. Anglesea, Victoria.
Specimens examined. AM 4001-4011, 4018.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype: 2355, is housed in the State Herbarium of South Australia., a leaf (Cuticle), and it is a compression fossil.
