Taxonomy
Sigmaphyllum tasmanensis was named by Hill and Scriven (1999) [Specimens examined: LRR1-2034, 2035.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype: LRR2-3139, housed in the School of Plant Science, University of Tasmania., a leaf (Cuticle), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Little Rapid River 2, which is in an Oligocene lacustrine mudstone/sandstone in Australia.
