Pleurocrinus was named by Austin and Austin (1843) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2,704]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Monobathrida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Platycrinitidae by Webster and Lane (1987), Webster (1987), Webster and Webster (2012), Webster et al. (2025).
