Cyclosorus was named by Link (1833). It is extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. It was considered monophyletic by I (2016).

It was assigned to Pteridopsida by Link (1833); to Thelypteridaceae by Chauhan (1991) and Liu et al. (1996); and to Thelypteridoideae by I (2016).
