Cymbiocrinus was named by Kirk (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u P Tatr]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Cymbiocrinidae.

It was assigned to Cymbiocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); to Apographiocrinidae by Webster and Jell (1993); to Ampelocrinidae by Webster and Jell (1999); to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Articuliformes by Wright (2017).
