Taxonomy
Rhynchonella sappho was named by Hall (1860).

It was recombined as Rhynchonella (Stenocisma) sappho by Hall (1867); it was recombined as Stenoschisma sappho by Lesley (1890); it was recombined as Camarotoechia sappho by Cleland (1911); it was recombined as Cupularostrum sappho by Dutro (1981); it was recombined as Sapphicorhynchus sappho by Sartenaer (2007).
