Taxonomy
Metacrinus was named by Carpenter (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: ]. It is extant. Its type is Metacrinus wyvillei. It is the type genus of Metacrininae.

It was assigned to Isocrinidae by Meyer and Oji (1993) and Stilwell et al. (1994); to Isocrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Metacrininae by Hess and Messing (2011).
