Sphaerexochus cephaloceros was named by Nieszkowski (1857). It is the type species of Nieszkowskia.
It was recombined as Nieszkowskia cephalocera by Nikolaisen (1961); it was recombined as Nieszkowskia cephaloceros by Shaw (1968).
