Palaeocomaster was named by Gislen (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett-l J Tith-u Sepkoski's reference number: 934]. It is not extant. Its type is Actinometra guirandi.
It was assigned to Comatulida by Rasmussen (1961), Sepkoski (2002); and to Solanocrinitidae by Hess and Messing (2011), Hess (2012).
