Placometra was named by Jagt (1999) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo T Dani]. It is not extant. Its type is Placometra mortenseni.

It was assigned to Comatulida by Rasmussen (1961), Sepkoski (2002); and to Pterocomidae by Hess and Messing (2011).
