Taxonomy
Cretiscalpellum venustum was named by Collins (1973). Its type specimen is BMNH In.64418, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 1.2 miles due E of Mt. Olive Church, which is in a Campanian marine chalk in the Mooreville Chalk Formation of Alabama.
