Selenariidae was named by Busk (1854). It is extant. Its type is Selenaria.

It was assigned to Anasca by Brown (1956); to Membraniporidae by Brown (1952), Brown (1958); to Cheilostomatida by Lee et al. (1997); and to Lunulitoidea by Håkansson et al. (2023).
