Taxonomy
Caleschara was named by MacGillivray (1880). It is extant. It is the type genus of Calescharidae.

It was assigned to Microporidae by Bassler (1953); to Membraniporidae by Brown (1956); to Hincksinidae by Brown (1958); and to Calescharidae by Gordon and Taylor (1999), Gordon (2012).
