Crusafontites megagemmatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number 29073.
Paratype: UFP 43, 5.2 x 111.4.
]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 43, 18.8 x 87.1, a microspore (Pollen grain). Its type locality is Pinalerita UFP 43/90/91, Llanos Foothills, Colombia, which is in an Eocene fluvial-deltaic claystone in the San Fernando Formation of Colombia.
