Echitetracolpites tenuiexinatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number 29073. Paratypes: UFP 41, 18.3 x 85; UFP 41, 15.7 x 104.5. ]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 43, 4.7 x 94.5, a microspore (Pollen grain). Its type locality is Pinalerita UFP 41, Llanos foothills, Colombia, which is in an Eocene fluvial-deltaic sandstone/mudstone in the Areniscas de el Limbo Formation of Colombia.
