Triassicidaris was named by Smith (1994) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 1120]. Its type is Triassicidaris peruviensis.

It was assigned to Cidaridae by Smith (1994); and to Cidaroida by Sepkoski (2002).
