Foveolaria was named by Busk (1884). It is extant. It is the type genus of Foveolariidae.
It was assigned to Membraniporidae by Brown (1952); to Calloporidae by Bassler (1953), Brown (1958), Schmidt (2003); and to Foveolariidae by Gordon (2012).
