Carnauba oiticica
Taxonomy
Carnauba oiticica was named by Anelli et al. (2009). Its type specimen is DNPM 140a, 140b, a shell (right and left valves), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mucambo Farmstead, Near the José de Freitas village, which is in a Morrowan/Desmoinesian carbonate dolomite in the Piauà Formation of Brazil.

Anelli et al. 2009 | Similar to Pyramus Dana, 1847 and Jacquesia Mendes, 1944, medium sized, stout shelled megadesmid, nearly oval in shape; right valve with one discrete but defined blunt tooth anterior to beak, resulting from a rising fold of the ventral margin of the hinge plate; immediately below the beak, a well marked depression separates the anterior blunt tooth from a possible small second tooth; externally, a discrete sharp to rounded carina runs from umbonal region to the posterior dorsal angle delimiting a respiratory margin. Vestigial punctae are poorly preserved in the posterior and anterior external regions of shell. |
