Taxonomy
Heterosminthus intermedius was named by Wang (2003). Its type specimen is IVPP V13597, a partial skeleton (Upper and lower jaws), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is IVPP Loc. DH 199903, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in the Tiejianggou Formation of China.
