Fucaia goedertorum

Taxonomy
Chonecetus goedertorum was named by Barnes et al. (1995). Its type specimen is LACM 131146, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Twin River Quarry, which is in a Chattian basinal (siliceous) mudstone in the Pysht Formation of Washington.

It was recombined as Fucaia goedertorum by Marx et al. (2015), Fordyce and Marx (2016), Tsai and Kohno (2017), Fordyce and Marx (2018), Hernández Cisneros and Velez-Juarbe (2024).

L. G. Barnes et al. 1995A species of Chonecetus differing from C. sookensis by having a cranium lacking paired clefts on either side of the midline of the intertemporal region, larger and more rectangular (in lateral view) zygomatic process of the squamosal, septum of vomer not extending posteriorly on basicranium between the tympanic bullae, larger and more protuberant occipital condyles with a deeper intercondylar notch, and a less arcuate anterior border of the occipital shield, transversely flattened anterior process of periotic, closely appressed to styliform process of the squamosal, posterior process of periotic longer and extended laterally between exoccipital and squamosal.
