Taxonomy
Xylechimys obliquus was named by Patterson and Pascual (1968). Its type specimen is MLP 59-II-26-81, a mandible (portion of right ramus with m1-3, base of i and alveoli of p4), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Laguna de los Machos, which is in a Deseadan terrestrial horizon in Argentina. It is the type species of Xylechimys.
