Lecaniella was named by Cookson and Eisenack (1962). It is not extant. Its type is Lecaniella margostriata.

It was assigned to Acritarcha by Andrews (1970); and to Zygnemataceae by Burger (1996), Clyde et al. (2021), Pérez Pincheira and di Pasquo (2021).
