Taxonomy
Cypraea utriculata was named by Lamarck (1810) [= Cypraea (Adusta) physis Br., Cerulli-Irelli 1911, p. 269, tav. 26, fig. 8-10. = Zonarina (Zonarina) amygdalum (Brocchi) 1814, Rossi Ronchetti 1955, p. 162, fig. 83.].

It was recombined as Zonaria utriculata by Sacco (1894); it was recombined as Schilderia utriculata by Tomlin (1910) and Landau and Fehse (2004); it was recombined as Schilderia utricolata by Brunetti and Vecchi (2015).

M. M. Brunetti and G. Vecchi 2015Conchiglia globosa, anteriormente ristretta. Apertura stretta, anteriormente più espansa e terminante, nella parte posteriore, con un canale ripiegato a sinistra. Bordo columellare con una ventina di dentelli allungati internamente verso la fossula, più attenuati nella parte medioposteriore. Labbro esterno flessuoso, munito di 27 dentelli arrotondati, separati da interspazi di uguali dimensioni o appena più ampi. Callo ampiamente esteso su entrambi i fianchi. La conchiglia ha il dorso parzialmente usurato e in parte mancante, su di esso si notano delle macchie ocracee, specie sul lato destro.
