Gerandogekko gaillardi was named by Hoffstetter (1946). Its type specimen is UBCL (LGr 5841), a partial skull (frontal), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La-Grive-Saint-Alban, which is in a MN 5/MN 7 + 8 fissure fill horizon in France.
