Cypraea (Basterotia) leporina praecedens was named by Sacco (1894).

It was recombined as Callistocypraea praecedens by Schilder (1932); it was recombined as Chelycypraea (Miolyncina) praecedens by Schilder (1941); it was recombined as Lyncina praecedens by Dolin and Lozouet (2004).
