Taxonomy
Cricetops auster was named by Li et al. (2016). Its type specimen is IVPP V 22635, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lijiawa mammalian fossil locality, which is in an Oligocene fluvial mudstone/marl in the Caijiachong Formation of China.
