Pseudodontichthys was named by Skeels (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: D m]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pseudodontichthyidae.

It was assigned to Eugeneodontida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudodontichthyidae by van der Laan (2019).
