Almascyllium was named by Cappetta (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant-u Sepkoski's reference number: 525,884]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Orectolobiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hemiscylliidae by Vullo et al. (2007).
