Taxonomy
Leptostyrax was named by Williston (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi K Coni Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is not extant. Its type is Leptostyrax bicuspidatus.

It was assigned to Lamninae by Hay (1902); to Lamnidae by Jordan (1963); to Cretoxyrhinidae by Siverson (1992), Siverson (1996), Siverson (1997), Underwood and Mitchell (1999), Cappetta and Case (1999); to Lamniformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eoptolamnidae by Kriwet et al. (2008).
