Cistudo eocaenica was named by de Stefano (1902). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pépieux-Cesseras, which is in a Lutetian terrestrial horizon in the Grès d'Aigne Formation of France.
It was recombined as Neochelys eocaenica by De Stefano (1902), Pérez-García and Lapparent de Broin (2013), Pérez-García and Lapparent de Broin (2015).
