Taxonomy
Megascyliorhinus was named by Cappetta and Ward (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l Q Plei Sepkoski's reference number: 453,884]. It is the type genus of Megascyliorhininae.

It was assigned to Galeomorphii by Cione (1986); to Parascyllidae by Purdy et al. (2001); to Carcharhiniformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Megascyliorhininae by Antunes and Balbino (2004); and to Scyliorhinidae by Cappetta and Ward (1977), Keyes (1984), Otero et al. (2013).
