Taxonomy
Pteroscyllium was named by Cappetta (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant-u K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pteroscylliinae.

It was assigned to Pteroscylliinae by Noubhani and Cappetta (1997); to Carcharhiniformes by Sepkoski (2002), Underwood and Ward (2008); and to Scyliorhinidae by Müller and Diedrich (1991), Underwood and Mitchell (1999), Underwood (2004), Kriwet et al. (2009), Guinot et al. (2013).
